Smile One:
Last week we had a scare with my ‘granddog’ who ultimately had a UTI. Because she’s ‘getting on’, the expectation of a tumor was high. After a scan, she was given a clean bill of health and an assurance there’s no sign of any growths. Incidentally, my daughter’s fee for the Vet visit was $ 222.22. (It could have been worse. She had a sonogram, shot updates, yearly physical, and got medicine.) and it was July 22nd. To me, it was God’s sign that my prayers had been answered. He could have made her fee $22.22 but then He would have just been ‘showing off’. LOL
Smile Two:
I had a lovely impromptu visit with my mother and sister. My sister has finally reached a feeling and ‘look’ of health after open-heart surgery in May!
Smile Three:
I’m getting a long overdue hair cut today! The reason that it’s been a year since I’ve had one is because I had lost all my phone contacts when my phone cover shifted and reset everything. I was cleaning my bulletin board on Friday and found my ‘house call hairdresser’s’ number on a buried ancient slip of paper and set up today’s appointment.
Later that Friday, I crossed paths with her at the grocery store! I’d been hoping to run into her for months. UGH! Isn’t that always the way things go? LOL

Weekly Smile 7/19/21 Sun-ripened Sweetness

This week was a continuance of an especially rainy July. My vacation time fell during that spell, of course. It didn’t disappoint as much as you may imagine, though.
Rainy days are slow and easy. They certainly curtail lawnmowing and other strenuous chores so relaxation is served on a platter.
Reading, listening to podcasts, and chatting filled most of my time.
Our gardens are growing like gangbusters too!
But I noticed that there’s one thing seriously missing when the sun doesn’t shine.
The term “Sun-ripened for sweetness” is no joke. Our raspberries are large, plentiful, and juicy but very tart!
Now, our Concord grapes are coming on in a bumper crop from the rain. Yet, I’m worried that their flavor will not be excellent if Mr. Sunshine doesn’t get after them in August. My fingers are crossed!

Weekly Smile 5/31/21~ Impromptu Movie Night

weeklysmile2b

This Memorial Day Weekend was a weather washout for camping at our forest retreat.
My daughter’s family did slip in some time on Friday but we (Grandma and Pepe) stayed home.
The family decided, midday on Saturday, to pack up and come home.
My youngest granddaughter (age 8) was terribly unhappy so I offered her a sleepover with Grandma.
We got all cozy, made popcorn, and chose a movie to watch.
Neither of us had seen the movie and ended up having a fun time!
The trailer is posted below.
The final segment, featuring Billy Crystal, of the trailer was the most quotable ‘funny’ that my granddaughter loved.
She repeated it several times and it was her first comment to her Mom the next morning.
My daughter and I think Evelyn is ready to watch The Princess Bride.
Her humor ‘meter’ has matured to the perfect level.
I’m amused anticipating Evelyn quoting “Anybody want a peanut?” for days.
We had the best time on Saturday night. When life ‘zigged’ we decided to ‘zag’.
(Since Billy Crystal is also in The Princess Bride, perhaps Evelyn will be repeating, “Might as well give me a paper cut and pour lemon juice on it.” too. lol)

Weekly Smile 5/17/21 Lovely Weekend

We finally got a Friday night through Sunday at our woodland campsite.
It felt wonderful!

The crabapple trees are flowering and humming with honeybees.

Spring flowers everywhere.

violets and forget-me-nots

The frogs are happily living around our little pond.

I found some trillium and a Jack-in-the-pulpit.

And? When I decided to look for my first 4-leafed clover all I had to do was look down and there it was.

4 leafed clover

The sounds of gray tree frogs, pileated woodpeckers, and the Spring run-off were music to my ears.
This is my favorite time of year!

Weekly Smile- Rib-tickling Sleepover

weeklysmile2b

My youngest granddaughter had a sleepover with me on Friday. She’s 8 1/2 and ever since she was a toddler, we’d lie in bed together during a sleepover and make up stories. (We have some great stories and characters that we’ve created through the years. Someday, I’ll share them with you.)
On Friday, we read her new book instead. She had already read it once but when we read the book together, she realized how extra funny it was! Having your Grandma laughing as you read is a real reason to crack up.
It quickly turned into a giggle fest because her new book is HILARIOUS.
Let’s put it this way. One character is a toothbrush who wants to be a dinosaur lawyer.
Did you read that twice?
Ridiculous is an awesome realm for the ‘sillies’!
If you know a kid between 7 and 10, I highly recommend this. Oh yes, read along with her for a BIG SMILE.
