d’Verse Haibun Monday- 1-2-23- Birth

This week, I would like you to write about your feelings towards this New Year and/or what you do in the first few days of January. Aim to write no more than three short, tight paragraphs, followed by a traditional haiku that includes reference to the season.

On New Year’s Day we celebrated my firstborn’s 43rd birthday. She was the New Year’s baby in our area in 1980. What a fine distraction I have had since that wonderous day! The traditional drumbeat of regrets and fearful anticipation that seems to permeate New Year’s Day had always made it my least favorite holiday. A perfect baby girl changed my whole outlook, and, for that, I am eternally grateful.
Any baby’s birth holds endless promise and possibilities and encompasses the true meaning of a beginning. Now, I choose to turn inward embracing gratitude all through the dark cold month of January not the least bit concerned with future ‘what ifs.’. This identical spirit to Christmas continues warming me all through the winter months.

January first
A perfect message of hope
Comes from your own heart

Something I wanted to Note

I just glanced around my kitchen and spotted gifts that my granddaughters picked out for me at Christmas. Since my blog’s foremost purpose is to document my thoughts for those precious girls, I needed to make this special note.
Each of them chose their gift separately and at different times. Katherine had found hers during an Autumn family vacation and Evelyn bought hers at the school holiday gift buying event.
Both are display items sporting the word “blessed”.
I’m so proud that each knew the importance of that term and attributed it to me. ❤
That tells me that I’ve inspired them toward hopefulness and gratitude.
Today, I was humbled and warmed to reflect on those special gifts!

Love ever after…

I called you this morning,

I’d been” out of touch”.

Seems I couldn’t reach you

“I love you, oh, so much!”

I thought of you this evening.

Why weren’t you around?

Seems I may have lost you,

I’ll check the “lost and found”.

I searched for you the other day

Then I realized

Seems you’re always with me

That is no surprise.

I need you beside me.

You’ll never fade away.

Seems just to know you love me too,

Puts warmth in every day.

Lazy Loves

I’m not lazy.

I’m a cat.

Don’t care one bit

What you think of that.

Be kind to me

Your lap is mine

My love can be

the special kind.

I won’t scratch

If you don’t tease

Don’t offer milk

If you please.

If you have never

owned just one

Who waits for you

’til day is done

And sun themselves

and washes too

Purrs affection

and chooses YOU.

You are missing

a friendship dear

the likes of which

become so clear

A house is warmed

So many ways

To have a cat

Makes cozy days.

I know something

you could do

Double up the joy

with two.
