The most memorable songs that I learned in grade school were about Autumn. I’ve taught my favorite ones to my granddaughters and just this last weekend, a cool breeze accompanied by the sound of migrating geese made us break into song.
“Autumn leaves falling and Autumn birds calling. Nippy cool weather for flying South together.
Leaves of warm orange and leaves of golden yellow, cover the hillsides with colors soft and mellow.”

I cannot find this 1960s children’s song anywhere on the internet. How delightful that I was able to pass it along!

Beyond September
Nature will hearten seedlings
Topped by tattered leaves

As an afterthought, I looked for an old video of my oldest granddaughter singing our song. I found it!
She was four in the video… just this month she just turned 17. Follow my Facebook link to hear it.

Family Life ~ Big Sister

My granddaughter Katherine knows she’ll become a big sister right after her 7th birthday this September. Just last week, she found out that her new sibling will be a sister. This has all been exciting.

At 6 1/2, Katherine has been able to wrap her head around the idea and consider it more than if she were younger.

Last evening, she had a sensitive moment while contemplating the prospect of sharing her mother’s heart with anyone else. It was the first time that the BIG SISTER role was not entirely appealing to her. Luckily, Katherine shares her feelings freely. Her mother (my daughter) was able to discuss how there is plenty of room in all of our hearts for both girls.

Today Kat was as cheerful as ever. I had been too young to consider all those feelings when I became a big sister many years ago. So glad that Kat could share her emotions. Certainly, we all will be aware of those feelings when little Evelyn comes to town.

It is sure to be life changing for us all!

My Favorite Month…My Favorite Place

See you in September…

“I puzzled and puzzled ’til my puzzler was sore.”

I always proclaim that June and September are my favorite months because those months usually have my idea of perfect weather. After having to come up with a favorite month, I realized that I (almost)couldn’t. They all have special traits and I love them for what they are. Holidays, activities, birthdays, playing in the snow, seeing the first crocus, how could anyone choose?

What I DO choose is to spend them all in the Northeastern US…rich in US history, Yankee ingenuity, and seasons.

My choice is September.
