Sunday Poser #27- Shame, Shame, on Lazy Parents

Sadje has asked another excellent question.

This week my question is;

Do you think how we turn out is in our control?

My answer is a resounding “yes” and “no”.

We are individually predisposed to our own variety of reactions to Life’s litany of experiences.
The quiet introspective child will respond differently from the impulsive risk-taking child to the same (or similar) situations.
Neither is better equipped than the other, but their ‘journeys’ will obviously take different ‘paths’.
So, in that sense, we are each ‘slaves’ to our inborn tendencies.

Yet, in each situation we also have the capacity to make choices. Sometimes they are choices that are the ‘lesser of two evils’ and sometimes they are choices according to values and goals.
What makes life even more of a gambit is that none of us get to become adults without passing through the “tempest time” of being a teenager.
Gosh! It’s hard to watch. So much of their future successes depend on making ‘wise’ decisions during a time when their own wisdom is in low supply.
We can appeal to them but no longer have much influence on them. This is why we call the preteens, the “formative years”. Their values and decision-making skills are already formed by our involved parenting.

{A short opinion rant is coming. Viewers are advised to use discretion. LOL }

Tell me again about the modern concept of “free range parenting”?!
Offering little guidance or instruction to young children isn’t just “lazy”, it’s cruel and amounts to criminal neglect offering no compassion for their futures. It also makes our entire society and culture vulnerable to unscrupulous influences.
Shame on those who fail to guide their children! [Yes… I lost my cool. Sometimes there are topics that require it. 😉 ]

Weekend Writing Prompt #265- Brevity

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.

The brevity of her fulgent remark undermined his well-prepared, yet ignorant, rant.

Kids are people too!

Katherine (age 6) was bewildered and frightened when asked not to get on her bus,as usual, yesterday. My daughter called her school and told them that Kat’s dad was going to pick her up for a change. Ellen specifically asked them to inform Katherine that her Daddy was coming.

The school office called Kat’s classroom and told her teacher to send Kat to the “walkers” exit. She was not to get on the bus. NO ONE TOLD KAT WHY. She was whimpering to herself until she saw her Dad. The change of plans without an explanation had her bewildered. THAT makes me angry!

It reminded me of my own experience the day President Kennedy was shot. I was just a little older than Katherine when I saw teachers congregating in our school hallway. They were crying. A voice came over the school intercom saying that we were all to go home immediately. This was almost an hour before ordinary dismissal. I ran home with my heart pounding and my eyes filled with tears. WHAT could be going on?

We had been schooled in the threat of nuclear attacks during the sixties and you can only imagine the possible scenarios that filled my head!

This is a post with a big message attached. Kids are people too! They are not mindless amoebas that litter a room. Tell them what’s going on you arrogant educators!

Whew…I feel better now. Have a nice day. 🙂

Warning…a political opinion from the right!

Cover of "Numbers (Match-the-Flaps)"
Cover of Numbers (Match-the-Flaps)

I dislike numbers…sorry, I just do.

First, there isn’t a poll worth a darn. They are too variable in the way the questions are asked, where and when, as well.

If you agree with the poll, it is a good one.

If the poll is contrary to your belief, well, what do they know?

Another thing, numbers lie. Yup, they do. Darn them!

Go to a bank and ask for a mortgage. Give them your numbers…get the mortgage. Oops…you Can afford the house BUT no birthdays,anniversaries,take-out food,Christmas, auto repairs etc. What the heck?

Numbers can be manipulated more than bleeding heart liberals. You can do the math but why doesn’t it work. Yes, love is NOT the answer to all things either.

Sounds great…who could be FOR war, FOR debt, FOR being poor?

So, why don’t we just all be poor so no one who IS feels left out?

Well folks. That’s where we are headed. I am in political mode today so if you’ve tuned out…I understand.

If you are still listening?

You either agree with me or you are really insulted and want to add another hatefully “paraphrased” rant of the right, just to keep your juices flowing. After all, if you didn’t think the “right” was so evil, you’d have nothing to do but look at the problem?

Ain’t I a stinker?

I just want to know from anyone, how does one continue forever(or happily ever-after), when they spend more than they take-in?

Simple question.

If you answered, they cannot go on forever. What will the eventual outcome be?

Just asking?

Maybe if we spend more money (we don’t have) , we can put off the ugly truth awhile?

Yes, you just may…

OK kids, this is tough. If everyone is poor and the government shares the wealth, what is that called in the encyclopedia?

Fairness? No.

Brotherhood? No.

Can you say Socialism boys and girls?

Ha! Wish it was that simple to explain…our kids will know it all too well one day.

Wish they could see this headline. “Bad ole conservatives tried to ruin your day so we liberals ruined your future.”

I’m spending the weekend in the woods. At least, my head won’t be in the sand…
