This week my question is;
What is a cause you’re passionate about and why?
I’m a bit late on this. Yesterday offered rejuvenating time for outdoor activities. 🙂
My passion is seeking ‘truth’ in our politics. It’s annoying to some and informative to others.
I feel that my granddaughters’ futures depend on our U.S. political decisions and policies. For that reason, I have an insatiable appetite for “goings on”.
Since I’m retired, I have the time to watch events on C-Span as they transpire. I also have time to research topics from multiple points of view. Our media has failed us on matters of ‘truth’, so to stay well informed, watching events as they happen in unedited fashion is my mission.
For those family and friends, who trust my fairness and instincts, it has been valuable to them. Much of our population is just too busy to absorb news beyond headlines. We all know that headlines are often misleading and sensationalized so knowing someone, whom they can trust to report the numerous elements on topics, is essential to staying informed. I often phrase my reporting as factual developments rather than opinion but readily offer opinion when asked. Everyone should know as much as possible especially for voting purposes.
Unfortunately, hopeful news in this arena is hard to uncover but the media’s hype on a new ‘crisis’ everyday requires me to offer temperance with gathered facts as well.
It’s an exhausting and “soul sapping” task so I take time to be outdoors and relax in-between.
Consider the ‘passions’ mentioned in this thread. Are the people in Communist China allowed to pursue them? Our freedoms are what make all our humane pursuits possible.
To me, if our political system stops working on our country’s behalf (primarily in failing to defend our Constitution), ALL other things people hold dear will be at risk. It is the bedrock for our future survival.

Weekend Writing Prompt #199 by Sammi Cox
It’s up to you.
I was watching my 10 month old granddaughter, a few days ago, as she bounced in one of those baby slings that attach to a doorway. When it came time for lunch, she was already seated in the sling, so I got down on my knees and fed her right where she was seated. I had attempted to feed her from the bouncy sling, a few months before, but it had proven too difficult to get the spoon to her mouth while she bounced. It was very comical though.
This time was very different. She bounced with the delightful anticipation of her meal then stopped to greet the spoon. She bounced between each offering then stopped as I brought the spoon to her mouth.
You might think this is a charming little anecdote but might be wondering what it has to do with the picture and message above?
Little Evelyn had learned a valuable lesson. Even at 10 months old, she was aware that she had the power to get what she wanted. She had taken the initiative to stop bouncing in order to get something tasty.
THAT, in my opinion, is the most important thing she’ll ever learn.
Cowboys, Guns and Pride
It wasn’t that long ago that I pretended to be Annie Oakley. Okay, 40 years is long in a lifetime but it feels like yesterday. I’d ride my pony, Socksey, at a gallop while balancing my pop gun. I played alone but never felt lonely.
As part of the first generation of kids with all day TV , the Wild West filled our airways and Cowboys were our heroes. From the modern perspective, these shows were violent and raw. How’s that modern perspective working for y’all?
- teen suicide
- school bullying with apathy from bystanders
- random gun violence
- deadbeat dads
- laziness
- sleep disorders
- eating disorders
To name a few more modern pervasive ailments.
I started looking for videos to attach to this post. My eyes are still filled with tears and my heart with the pride from revisiting my ‘ol pals. Then I found the perfect video. A new movement to instill the virtues that I aspired to from my cowboy heroes. Food for thought people. I’m going to get some old westerns and watch them with my granddaughter.
BTW- I added guns to my title just to make this post “scary” and controversial enough to get you to consider it. 🙂
