Unanswered Question: Why do we keep lying to ourselves?

I saw a post and only read two lines of the poem.
The image of George Floyd was clearly displayed at the top of the page.
The poem spoke of “slave ships”.
That was enough for me.
The death of George Floyd was tragic on so many levels but the stubborn adherence to the idea that it had anything to with race is absurd. What that mindset does is perpetuate a myth, a political flashpoint, and a lie.
Derrick Shovan was a terrible, barbaric, man and cop.
George Floyd was a drug addict, repeat criminal, and misguided soul.
We could investigate all day long the ‘whats and whys’ that made them each that way, but that’s not the point.
Something terribly tragic happened and we’re not placing the blame on ‘what happened next’ where it belongs.
Both men had culpability in the route they took to that place and time of Floyd’s death, yet their race wasn’t deemed, even in court, as having an influence.
So, why do we keep lying to ourselves?
Why is George Floyd a folk hero?
How does his life and death have anything to do with slave ships?
Derrick and George were already known to each other.
No ‘hate crime’ allegation was pursued in Derrick’s trial. Because race was NOT a factor. (He was a real ‘rotten egg’ and got what he deserved.)
Race hustlers came rushing out of the woodwork, though. Some for financial gain (BLM organizers) and others for political leverage (BLM self-proclaimed Marxists, among others). Both types should have been recognized as and declared opportunists immediately.
That’s why the riots, marches, and continued mythology over George Floyd are so baffling and IMHO are symptomatic of even darker ills than a would-be individual act of racism.
Those most desperate ubiquitous illnesses are victimhood, ignorance, and-bias inspired- gullibility.
The clear perpetrators of those crippling diseases are the media, our educational system, and political activists. If you want something ‘real‘ to be outraged about, their accountability isn’t even going to be EVER considered. The avoidable death and destruction in the aftermath will go on being falsely labeled a noble crusade. Instead, the misnomer of “systematic racism” (in this specific case) will continue to destroy our harmony, unity, and sense of justice. We will therefore go on being victimized and consumed by ‘lies’, half-truths, and narrative manipulations, until the nefarious goal of dehumanizing and dividing our country for the purpose of totalitarian control, is achieved.
Don’t play a role in it by not getting your facts straight.

Unanswered Question: Why would President Biden want to destroy our country?

I’m perplexed by the ‘otherwise intelligent’ people that I know who can’t or won’t wrap their heads around the purposeful active destruction of our country.
I accept the claim that I may think ‘too much’ about this specific topic but there are an awfully large group who IMHO think ‘too little’ on it too.
The first question from them is, “Why would President Biden want to destroy America?”. That seems a harsh claim on its surface which most people don’t even want to consider. The better question would be, “Why isn’t he virtuously and vigorously protecting our country?”.
There’s no A to B single commitment to destroy America by President Biden. We need to examine the BIG picture. (Something I’ve decided that many people are incapable of ‘seeing’.) The most powerful and richest people greatly influencing our current destruction are motivated by an interest in eliminating the entire Western World (globalists). Marxists, Anarchists, and Foreign Enemies absolutely enjoy the direction we’re headed in and nudge us covertly toward it using their influence on powerful individuals. But our leadership are just tools in it.
Get real. President Biden isn’t managing one thing. [Let’s get that out of the way.] There are ‘groups’ of people pushing a sweet-sounding agenda who are talking in his ear and writing his words. Some are evilly corrupt, and others are well paid and rewarded for going along- so they’re the highly useful self-serving.
I think that those who can’t imagine that there’s an element in people who default to “what’s best for them” even if it may hurt others, haven’t paid full attention lately. The “greater good” left the building years ago. Lifelong political players are more superficially focused than most ordinary people. Their personal emphasis is on appearances, getting re-elected, and their own status and it’s their whole life. (This is why term limits on political positions are desperately needed.) The system itself corrupts. For those who have no values to begin with, the corrupting effect is nearly immediate. Favors, money, power, and attention were probably their motivation to become politicians in the first place.

We all have heard of “mob psychology”. It usually dilutes the principles of individuals in favor of a group outcome. [Not every individual has principles, either. Those types are extra useful.]

Why would a boardroom of people at Pfizer impose a ‘vaccine’ with real safety issues on the public while withholding warnings?
Why would people who were basically law-abiding rush a border and break into a country?
Why would “mostly peaceful” protestors start vandalizing a city?
Why would the teaching profession implement harmful topics for use on children even when most know better?

It’s a mob mentality that rewards compliance and destroys those who don’t comply. The individuals in each situation can absolve themselves of responsibility and guilt because they feel powerless alone. It really wasn’t ‘up to them’. They can ‘go along’ and get self-serving perks or get destroyed and suffer. Have I mentioned that the virtue of “courage” has also gone the way of “the greater good” and “principles”? The label of “snowflakes” isn’t just about a certain type of person’s sensitive feelings. To be blunt, they are primarily ‘”gutless cowards”. They attack people in groups or from the anonymity of the internet. They tear down inanimate statues for attention. They ask for “safe spaces” and cry and complain about imaginary ‘oppressive forces’ too.
So, why is President Biden purposefully destroying America? He isn’t. The cowardly and unprincipled mobs of influential people are. Unfortunately, many of them currently run our country.

Unanswered Question: When did we become mind readers?

When I was a kid, the saying “Sticks and stones will break my bones but names can never hurt me.” was the ‘law’ of Natural Selection.
It didn’t matter “why” someone said cruel things, it was our individual choice not to listen to them. That saying served as a powerful response to what is now considered “bullying”.
Let’s face it, people sometimes have bad days and have their own problems that they sometimes try to impose on the rest of us. But we aren’t supposed to be required to allow them to.

Young women experience wild mood swings once their hormones start flooding their bloodstreams. It was impressed upon me (and since to my granddaughters) that those feelings are our own to handle. To just release a whirlwind on the world, was/is NOT how we should handle it. That philosophy applies to our entire character. A familiar saying at my house is “deal with it”.

But there’s a strange turnabout in the “individual responsibility” genre these days. We are supposed to ‘guess’ why someone acts out, and after that, we’re supposed to respect, even support, the other person as if their emotional state has priority to your own.
First, when did we all become mind readers?
Secondly, why are we supposed to take responsibility for everyone else’s ‘feelings’ before our own?
Compassion doesn’t require an active response. We can ‘care’ without needing to ‘take care’ of others. By not getting ‘all up’ in their business we likely return them to their own empowerment. If they’re filled with self-pity, it doesn’t seem generous to feed that ‘beast’.
There’s a BIG difference between offering a smile, hug, or ‘helping hand’ to someone who’s struggling and bowing to (or enabling) someone else’s destructive behavior.
Aren’t we supposed to (allowed to) distinguish between someone in ‘real’ trouble and someone who is ‘playing the victim’? Sorry but IMHO those two kinds of people are not equally deserving of our concern. But somehow, the term ‘hater’ is thrown around when we don’t comply with, or reward, every single complaint.

Seems the patients have taken over the asylum, folks.

Our society is throwing individual responsibility and freedom overboard and replacing it with “group think” and “the collective”. Hope you know that those changes are a direct step toward Marxism.
Not good for you and not at all healthy for America.

The ‘adults’ who are left are the ones courageously just saying, “NO”.

Unanswered Question: What’s up with messing with language?

There are many ‘new’ terms in our language. What are these about?
Are we naming ‘new’ things like EVs or AI?
Yes, sometimes we are coming up with labels for ‘new’ things.
Some of our ‘new’ language styles are coming from texting shorthand. BTW takes less time than typing “By the way.”
It is quite a cool event. I don’t believe we’ll be able to spell as well as used to, though. We’ve seen what calculators have done to doing math in our heads.
But there’s a ‘new’ specific term that disturbs me. It’s not about any new object or tool but a ‘new’ concept.
BTW- Even new concepts need new terms. The new term of ‘transgenderism’ isn’t offensive or misleading even though its ubiquitous and gut wrenching. It is a term for something that’s real and everyone knows what it’s defining.

The phrase that troubles me is “My truth.”. Primarily because it’s sometimes interchangeable with “the truth”.
“My truth” is a disingenuous term not unlike calling the Covid-19 shot a ‘vaccine’.
“My truth” has no more to do with “the truth” than the experimental medicinal shot had with any former ‘vaccine’.
IMHO…Our heads are being played with.

So, what’s up with messing with our language?

I think the definition of “my truth” according to the Urban Dictionary gives us a clue.

“MY TRUTH”

Pretentious substitute for “non-negotiable personal opinion.”

Often used by academics, this is a convenient phrase for avoiding arguments because people can contradict your opinion but not your “truth.”

The phrase is often used when seeking to justify a controversial personal stance or action because people are not allowed to argue with “your truth.”

I, for one, make every effort to correct the misuse of modern terms… especially with young people. A silencing and confusion effort is clearly descending upon us.

While we’re at it, can you define the following terms under a broad definition? There’s a lot of confusion these days. Good luck.

“hate speech”
“assault weapon” (the applicant for the head of the ATF couldn’t define one)
“woman” (How can you claim to be a defender of women if you don’t know how to define one?)
“poverty” (the government keeps changing the meaning of the term)
“social justice” (it’s equity now not equality and has nothing to do with ‘justice’.)
“human diversity” (doesn’t pertain to opinion or thought on college campuses but if we used human fingerprints as a guideline, we already have it universally.)
“rights” (Hint: they aren’t wants or even needs.)
“A Democracy as opposed to a Republic”
“criminal”
“Domestic terrorists” as opposed to “opposition to the powerful”
“anti-capitalist” (aka “envying the rich”.)
“Executive order” as opposed to a “law”
“science” as opposed to “expert opinion”
“motherhood”

There are more, of course. Feel free to add your own. ❤

Unanswered Question: How should we measure success?

What inspired this post? I read that one of Elon Musk’s children has become transgender.
Here’s my stream of consciousness that followed.

I’m so thankful for people like Elon Musk. His genius, and drive, are exceptional. But… was he an involved father along the way? If he has been, have our futures been reduced from his distractions on behalf of his family?

Now, I’m not blaming Musk for anything. I have no idea what his life is like. My thoughts went to who we consider “high achievers” and how often their accomplishments are a ‘trade-off’ for other things.
I had a big online blowback one time from adding context to a thread about one of the gifted geniuses who inspired impressionism to the art world. I had just watched one of my all-time favorite documentaries that showed the age of Impressionism. One fact that came up about many of the artists was their abandonment of their families in favor of their ‘driven’ pursuits. Not all of them but a few had left their families to nearly starve. When I brought that topic up, several people accused me of being a ‘hater’ and a killjoy for bringing it up. All they wanted to discuss was the beauty and genius those people had added to Art.
Well, I get that. It may not have been the right place for the comment BUT the thread had been started as one about “gaining knowledge”. To me, there isn’t ‘good’ knowledge or ‘bad’ knowledge… just knowledge.

So, how should we measure success? We certainly need people like Elon Musk and Alfred Sisley. Many influential historical figures actually had tragic ‘home lives’. I think that question is an important one. Status, money, power, and celebrity are so highly regarded today, perhaps we should hold up other kinds of success too.

Fathers who provide for and raise their children, mothers who trade a promotion for a work schedule that allows them to shuttle their kids to extra-curricular activities, offspring who refuse to relocate because they won’t leave their elderly parents, young people who join the military because they love their country while putting off the starting of a career and family, etc. You get the point.
I’d like to see a little more emphasis on living a ‘good’ life not necessarily a ‘notable’ one.

This scene from Bruce Almighty came to mind just now. I think it sums my post up nicely.

Unanswered Question: Why do citizens of other countries feel compelled to critique my country?

I stumble upon commentary from time to time that has nothing good to say about the U.S. and its Constitution.
First, everyone can say what they want and until foreigners pay our bills or clean up their own countries, the opinions expressed mean nothing.
I will express displeasure with actions of other countries when those actions directly affect our own, but how people run their own countries is none of my business otherwise.
It’s clear to me that there’s an information campaign worldwide to diminish positive regard for the U.S. Also, it’s clear, that other countries, in general, are fed more misinformation than we are. (But not much more than we have these days.)
Other countries couldn’t possibly understand or embrace our culture as it developed according to our history. Maybe they ought to stop staring out of the window at the neighbors and clean their own houses?
Even when I agree with some of the negative points made, my underlying, “How dare you?” reaction is still there. {They would be lucky to have a constitution like ours. The fact that our current government doesn’t follow it any more is our own problem.}
Many times, those less free countrymen abroad suggest that their own righteous viewpoint is unquestionable. Most recently, a post dwelled on the ‘evil’ of our 2nd Amendment. To them I say, “Good for you disarming your citizens. Don’t call us if you find yourself in a bind.”
It’s absolutely true that the U.S. has stuck its nose where it doesn’t belong way too many times. But those are actions of a military complex that has increasingly gone mad. Those people don’t represent us.

So, why do citizens of other countries feel compelled to critique our country?
It seems to me that those who do that are behaving like high school ‘mean girls’ looking for attention and their own validation at the expense of others. It’s not a good look fellas. 😉
I’m not angry about it but I am clearly irritated. Just so you know, I don’t define the fellow countrymen of those bloviating about running a ‘good’ country according to those dingbats either.
{Note to other countries: If anyone from the U.S. comes to your door suggesting you need to go Woke, please know that they are acting according to their own agenda and were not sent by “We the People”.}

Unanswered Question: Am I the only one listening?

Busy, busy, busy! We’re all pretty busy these days.
I mainly like being busy. Busy people feel purposeful.
But ‘tuning out’ isn’t a necessary by-product.

I’ve heard that people learn differently. I believe that. Some need to get their hands dirty, others need to study words, and others need a picture presentation in order to absorb information. I’m a listener. The layers of meaning in spoken language is a fascination to me. What people “say” can IMHO give us a large volume of information. We mustn’t overlook the additional benefit of comprehending “How they say things”, “What may have inspired what they say.”, and “Who they are talking to.”

For the listeners, there’s always a certain amount of conjecture as is with the observers who tend to judge people on their appearances. Both methods can fail miserably on getting a ‘correct’ or whole ‘story’. But a good listener hears ‘something’ and ‘leans in’ hoping to sift out some ‘truth’. A great comment listeners use is, “Tell me more.”

There’s been a large amount of upheaval in our language. Our youngest generations are using their own ‘slang’ as young people have always done but there’s an alarming level of also redefining ordinary speech. Yet, if you listen closely, there are still enough clues available for exchanging ideas. Whenever I feel as though someone and I are not ‘on the same page’, I’ll ask, “What are you using as a definition of “poor”? or “Can you tell me how you define “oppressed”?

By now you’re likely asking, “What’s your point?” LOL
Here goes:
I was driving around doing errands yesterday while listening to the radio. The local news report was on and this is what I heard:
“A college athlete will not be charged with assault and battery for shoving and slapping a fellow teammate last month. Instead, he’ll be mandated to attend a “Corrective Thinking” class within a year.”

(Of course, I don’t know why the “slap” occurred or whether that athlete may have elected for that ‘alternative’ punishment.)
BUT the information I heard DID alert me to the existence of something called a “Corrective Thinking Class”. What in the name of George Orwell is going on?!
When was the imposition of a fine or suspension as a punishment replaced with ‘thought control’? Am I the only one listening?
We’re in deep “doo doo” people.
And I’m reporting this, as an alarmed listener, because so many people who are ‘busy’ may not be aware of where we are headed.
