My name is Susan St. Pierre and I’m from Massachusetts, U.S.A..
I have been a licensed family day care provider since 1975*. I hope never to stop seeing the world through the eyes of children.
My husband and I purchased 29 acres of woodland, about 30 minutes drive from our home, in order to pursue our favorite pastime of camping. Most of my wildlife adventures take place there.
Why sillyfrog? My son gave me that title when creating my first email account. It was “off the cuff” but very fitting since I am often laughing and I am fascinated with amphibians.
I am an artist and writer. I find life very amusing and endlessly interesting.
This blog is a creative fun activity and a memoir, of sorts, for my two granddaughters.

Of course, I have a cool claim, too – I went to high school with him, graduated the same year (1970). We were on the newspaper staff together. At the time, he was going by Rick McCammon. He was a skinny kid with elbows sticking out everywhere and a nice smile. I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and did most of the things he describes, and a few more besides. We girls loved to make clover necklaces and pull the one tiny drop of honeysuckle nectar out through the bottom of the flower, using the stamen (I think that’s the part!)

I’m delighted to have you as a writing buddy and thrilled to have connected with a kindred spirit.
I’m 23 years old. Generally speaking, my circle of friends consists of people who are also in their twenties. I don’t like old* people. This is probably due to the fact that I associate old people either with friends/colleagues of my parents (who speak in boring medical jargon and have no sense of humour), professors (98% of whom just drone on endlessly without any charisma whatsoever), friends’ parents (parents typically don’t like me), and cashiers who take far too long to ring my stuff up and try to engage me in casual conversation when really I just want to pay for my merchandise and leave.
That having been said, I stumbled upon your blog, and I absolutely love it! You are the only AWESOME old person I know. I mean, I don’t “know” you, but you get my point. You are extremely funny, I like that you’re a Plinky user, your photographs are great, and you have been bookmarked.
*Anyone older than 35 is deemed “old” in my books. But that’s just because I’m 23. I understand that the books will change as the years go on.

I’m only 12; I feel sort of intimidated in such older company, but you really are some example of awesome if I ever saw one! I found you on Plinky… I’ve been using it for inspiration on my blog too, and I was stunned to find that you also use WordPress! So far the only people I “know” on WordPress are my friend (who is my blogging rival) and a nice Korean girl who shares my name.
And I guess at this age I find everyone that acts adult-ish is old. Like my best friend who is really more of my role model; she’s so mature.
But you’re so quirky and fun and you like writing as much as I do, if not more, I was surprised when I read read your age after looking through your Plinky answers and your eccentric blog posts! You’re clever and I wanna’ be a writer like you when I’m older. I’m trying to be the next S. E. Hinton, but I don’t know how that’ll work out!
Keep writing! And thinking! (Not that it’s actually possible to stop thinking.)

Susan, seems we have much more in common than our names and writing. I, too, also run an in home daycare. I hike and photograph nature often, though the majority of my pics are posted on my poetry blog rather than my regular one. And frogs (the stuffed and statuesque variety of one of my collectibles! Susan – Thanks for stopping by and following me. It’s great to meet someone who enjoys children so much. Both of my children love learning about animals. Amphibians are one of their faves as we see lots of them spring-fall at our place in the suburbs of Detroit.
My mother alerted me to a news article about the declining interest in our National Parks. Seems young people are becoming “out-of-touch” with nature. We can’t let that happen, can we?
We do need to encourage a love for our planet and all of its wonders in young people. Mine are unique as are the children they associate with. They all enjoy nature very much and enjoy learning/caring about their planet. We recently adopted a snake at our local nature center for my daughter (9). It is a rock python. My daughter is learning to care for it and love it.
Good for you! Your kids will have enriched lives because of their interests…wonderful!

An Irish Jack Russell (Ollie)…he’s my best pal and great with the kids, too. I’m overdo for a blog post about him…thanks for reminding me.
My kids are grown BUT, as a day care provider, I get to spend every day with my granddaughters! I am truly very fortunate…free day care and knowing the kids are with grandma…PRICELESS to my daughter and son-in-law.
Definitely! My mom always helped when my kids were young. It sounds like the paid kids are fortunate to have you, too. 🙂
So nice to meet you…family, kids and dog (cat, fish and gecko too) lol…Life is good!
And Jack Russells are just way too cute! One comes to the dog park all the time and is quite a character.
