About me

My name is Susan St. Pierre and I’m from Massachusetts, U.S.A..

I have been a licensed family day care provider since 1975*. I hope never to stop seeing the world through the eyes of children.

My husband and I purchased 29 acres of woodland, about 30 minutes drive from our home, in order to pursue our favorite pastime of camping. Most of my wildlife adventures take place there.

Why sillyfrog?  My son gave me that title when creating my first email account. It was “off the cuff” but very fitting since I am often laughing and I am fascinated with amphibians.

I am an artist and writer. I find life very amusing and endlessly interesting.

This blog is a creative fun activity and a memoir, of sorts, for my two granddaughters.

Thank you for taking a moment and stopping by 🙂

  1. Hey, there!
I like your writing! Of course, we tend to like that which is similar to our own writing.
Found you through Facebook, when Robert McCammon’s people posted a link to your blog! How cool is that?
Of course, I have a cool claim, too – I went to high school with him, graduated the same year (1970). We were on the newspaper staff together. At the time, he was going by Rick McCammon. He was a skinny kid with elbows sticking out everywhere and a nice smile. I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and did most of the things he describes, and a few more besides. We girls loved to make clover necklaces and pull the one tiny drop of honeysuckle nectar out through the bottom of the flower, using the stamen (I think that’s the part!)
Please visit my blog above if you’d like. Can’t have too many writing buddies!
    Take care,
    Becca

    1. My heart is racing since your stunning comment.
The answer to your question is SUPER cool!
I’m delighted to have you as a writing buddy and thrilled to have connected with a kindred spirit.

  2. I’m 23 years old. Generally speaking, my circle of friends consists of people who are also in their twenties. I don’t like old* people. This is probably due to the fact that I associate old people either with friends/colleagues of my parents (who speak in boring medical jargon and have no sense of humour), professors (98% of whom just drone on endlessly without any charisma whatsoever), friends’ parents (parents typically don’t like me), and cashiers who take far too long to ring my stuff up and try to engage me in casual conversation when really I just want to pay for my merchandise and leave.

That having been said, I stumbled upon your blog, and I absolutely love it! You are the only AWESOME old person I know. I mean, I don’t “know” you, but you get my point. You are extremely funny, I like that you’re a Plinky user, your photographs are great, and you have been bookmarked.

*Anyone older than 35 is deemed “old” in my books. But that’s just because I’m 23. I understand that the books will change as the years go on.

  3. What a delightful comment!
    You made me chuckle, thanks.
The pressure is on…I feel like I’m your only “old person” connection and that is an awesomely important thing 🙂
    Hope I measure up,my friend.

  4. Waa!!
I’m only 12; I feel sort of intimidated in such older company, but you really are some example of awesome if I ever saw one! I found you on Plinky… I’ve been using it for inspiration on my blog too, and I was stunned to find that you also use WordPress! So far the only people I “know” on WordPress are my friend (who is my blogging rival) and a nice Korean girl who shares my name.
And I guess at this age I find everyone that acts adult-ish is old. Like my best friend who is really more of my role model; she’s so mature.
But you’re so quirky and fun and you like writing as much as I do, if not more, I was surprised when I read read your age after looking through your Plinky answers and your eccentric blog posts! You’re clever and I wanna’ be a writer like you when I’m older. I’m trying to be the next S. E. Hinton, but I don’t know how that’ll work out!
Keep writing! And thinking! (Not that it’s actually possible to stop thinking.)

    1. Oh my, it is so wonderful to get up in the morning and be told how awesome I am!
I am surprised at your age as much!
You have a wonderful spirit and a long writing adventure ahead…it is I who feels a bit intimidated 🙂

  5. Hi Sue,

    It’s Helen Dawson from Plinky.com

I just had to find a way to contact you, as we seem to share many of the same interests, and enjoy reading each other’s postings to Plinky Prompts.

If you choose, you can contact me directly though my regular email, at: Crittersaver007@yahoo.com

  6. I have had the pleasure of looking at your blog here…how very wonderful! Thank you for sharing all.
    Warm wishes your way

  7. Hi Susan,
I clicked on ‘about you’ when replying to your comments in my blog.

I am new to blogging world, though I found its
    utility, while reading about you.

Your creations have reflected the real child care talent and understanding of children.

    Great read indeed.

  8. I take my hat off to you and bow!
It takes somebody REALLY special to work with children for as long as what you have!

Reading this section just makes a person realise how special children actually are and what an important job we have in either teaching them, looking after them, or simply entertaining them.

Your closing quote is very insightful!

    Thanks for writing etc…
Peace to you and ALL of yours, 🙂

  9. You Silly Frog….sorry had to address you that way when I read your About Page…I just want to thank you for your kind words about my interview at Jingle Poetry…to be a daycare provider since 1975 – you have to have mounds of patience and stories to tell…

again thank you and glad to meet at Jingle Poetry….bkm

  10. Thanks for visiting my blog, Susan. Wow! We even share the same name. I love your pictures! I look forward to seeing more of them.

  11. Susan, thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. I’m glad you did, because now I can enjoy yours! I’m looking forward to browsing….just wanted to say HI!

  12. Susan, seems we have much more in common than our names and writing. I, too, also run an in home daycare. I hike and photograph nature often, though the majority of my pics are posted on my poetry blog rather than my regular one. And frogs (the stuffed and statuesque variety of one of my collectibles! Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog.

  13. You sound like someone I’d love to share a cup of coffee with. Thank you for visiting my blog and I’m looking forward to following yours.

  14. You are the recipient of The Sunshine Award. Thanks for your delightful posts, and for leaving such nice comments about my essays.

  15. My dear Susan! What a full life! What a great life! I can think of no other greater joy than to have worked with children all your life. You are a very special person in my book. Looking forward to catching up with your wonderful blog and your world. Warmest greetings from Finland, Sharon

    1. Thank-you Sharon.
So happy to have you as a new neighbor in the blogging community.
Actually, I am still a kid cleverly disguised as a Day Care provider. Shhhhh! Don’t let my secret out. 😉

  16. Susan – Thanks for stopping by and following me. It’s great to meet someone who enjoys children so much. Both of my children love learning about animals. Amphibians are one of their faves as we see lots of them spring-fall at our place in the suburbs of Detroit.

    1. My mother alerted me to a news article about the declining interest in our National Parks. Seems young people are becoming “out-of-touch” with nature. We can’t let that happen, can we?

      1. We do need to encourage a love for our planet and all of its wonders in young people. Mine are unique as are the children they associate with. They all enjoy nature very much and enjoy learning/caring about their planet. We recently adopted a snake at our local nature center for my daughter (9). It is a rock python. My daughter is learning to care for it and love it.

  17. Thank you for taking the time to follow my blog…I appreciate it. I hope you enjoy the trip…but first a few suggestions for the newbie follower. It has been deemed helpful, to you the reader, that before you begin reading my posts you prepare an alcoholic beverage, or if you are not inclined toward alcohol, then a least a tall iced drink. Then find a comfy spot, put up your feet, begin reading, and occasionally scratch where it itches. These small preparations will greatly enhance the reading experience…I hope…lol.

    Be encouraged!

  18. Hello ,
Your writing is an art; it’s beautiful. I think if you keep doing what you’re doing now, you will have good future. So keep it up my friend! 🙂
I have a joyful ride in your blog, and now I’d like to invite you to visit mine. Thank you and have a wonderful day, my friend! 🙂

    1. Thank-you Subhan for the lovely comment. I must admit, I have not visited many other blogs because of time. I will try to be a better blogging friend and visit yours more often. Happy New Year and success wished for you!
      Love,
      Susan

      1. Thank you, Susan, for the kind wishes. You are one generous soul. Many blessings and much love to you. 🙂

  20. Hi Susan,
Thanks for stopping by and liking my “Two Can Play” post. My poor little dog takes the written brunt of my creativity…but he really has stopped running to the door to greet me unless I’ve been gone a few hours. 🙂
    Nice to meet you!
    Vanessa

    1. Mine takes me for granted too! Hey, so do my kids…seems that implies that I am efficient and dependable. I’ll take it! LOL
Nice to meet another dog person and, a dog person who writes,…well, that’s extra special. 😉

      1. An Irish Jack Russell (Ollie)…he’s my best pal and great with the kids, too. I’m overdo for a blog post about him…thanks for reminding me.
My kids are grown BUT, as a day care provider, I get to spend every day with my granddaughters! I am truly very fortunate…free day care and knowing the kids are with grandma…PRICELESS to my daughter and son-in-law.

  21. Susan –
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and deciding to join me on my journey. I consider it an honor to have you follow along. I must agree with you about our grandchildren….they are our pure joy and our delight as well. There is nothing like holding them in my arms, and the sound of their voice when they say “Grandma”…I absolutely love it.
    Thanks again for the follow…
    Have a wonderful week,
    Becky
