The Garden Dawdler April 9th, 2023 ~ Surprise Me!

Today I wish everyone a Happy Easter. Here are Rory’s questions:

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

For better or worse, my blog is 100% ME. It’s a place for me to play and create on my own terms.

Do you recover well from setbacks to your plans?

Of course, I do imagine what I’m going to do but I’m not a big planner. In fact, I imagine many different things to do and take each day as it comes. When life ‘zigs’ I’m easily able to ‘zag’. I’m rarely disappointed, and often, pleasantly surprised that way.

How did you meet your other half?

He was a local guy, and I didn’t like who he was from afar at first by the friends he had. I started frequenting our local bowling alley bar for a drink or two and he was there playing pool. We bumped into each other exiting the restrooms and he asked to buy me a drink. (Secretly, he had been inquiring about ‘Who I was’ before that.) He was told that I was a ‘goodie two-shoes’ and he told me later on that he was looking for a ‘nice’ girl so the warning, itself, inspired him to ask me out. 😀

[The cutest part of the story was that he was a bit nervous and shy, so when the drink was served, he set it in front of me and returned to sit by the pool table. I then had to take the initiative to pick up the drink and go sit with him! LOL ]

What was your very first paid job/employment?

I worked in a nursing home laundry for a few months just before I graduated from High School. It was an ‘experience’ to say the least… nasty, hot, and tedious work but I really got to experience what unskilled labor was all about. The people were very nice and dedicated to doing their job well. I don’t regret it at all.

What Do You Prefer: Fruits or Vegetables?

All of the above. I never have met a fresh produce product that I didn’t like. I was going to list my favorites until I realized the list would be too long. ‘Variety is the spice of life’ and it applies to fruits and vegetables. A little of one variety compliments the other, and so on…

How open to new experiences and adventures are you?

I’m a ‘stick in the mud’ and an ‘explorer’ all in one. I don’t like to travel but I love to learn. New crafts, new books, and new people are of great interest to me but don’t ask me to travel very far. Traveling is tiring and takes away from the time that I could be ‘doing’ something.

Are you afraid or confident to speak your mind?

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

It’s great fun! If I’m tired, I don’t do it. I also don’t feel compelled to do it if I have something more interesting to me going on. That’s precisely why I don’t join monthly challenges… I don’t like being scheduled.

What do you think the best pizza topping is?

I haven’t had any topping that repulsed me yet. My husband and I had an anchovies and black olive time period once. I would be happy just ordering a “Surprise Me” special.

  1. Hey Susan 🙂

    Good answers all.

Ah black olive and anchovies was an all time favourite topping once a time, not any more as alas l can’t eat either of them, but those pizza days were great.

Why did your fella want a nice girl then and what was wrong about his friends that made you not like him?

Being honest is always key, l upset or used to upset people all the time by being honest and asking way too many direct questions, it’s not my fault people are ultra sensitive 🙂

    1. Thank you Rory. 😊
My future husband had just returned from 3 years overseas in the Navy. His friends lived on my street and had a rowdy reputation of swearing, drinking, and petty larceny.
He was looking for a girl that his Mom and Dad would approve of. In our small city, everybody pretty much knew everyone else at least by their family name. Mine was a reputable family and with a French last name [La Valley] he not only was attracted to me, he knew his parents would approve. That used to make a difference. 😉
I hear you on the honesty part. I’ll never understand how simple questions have become ‘hate speech’. LOL

      1. Thanks for the extra detail, l got you now with regards to his friends and associated behaviours of others’, yet he was in fact the shy gentleman as well.

As we have agreed before Susan, we have way too many people just wanting and waiting to be offended these days.

Tell me something good...
