OUR PROMPT WORD: STAND

Infants roll.
Babies crawl.
Toddlers stand.
Children wish a helping hand.
Each their own stride rehearse
To walk.
Once mature, we seek our purpose,
Chase our dreams, and forge wholly unique paths.
Privileged with choices, pride, and goals.

Governance mocks the essence of adulthood.

  1. All of that careful buildup only to be answerable to Da Man. What a disappointment for us. The price of security comes at a great cost doesn’t it.

    1. I don’t believe success was mentioned? That’s an interesting perspective. Governance insults the spirit of adulthood. Governance, to a point, is absolutely necessary. Self-governance is the natural state of being for mature humans, though. It occurred to me that the more immature, and unserious, adults are, the less likely they are to feel ‘imposed upon’ by governance. Might be why many Millennials find Marxism appealing? Hmm… that idea needs some more contemplation. Thanks for your comment!

  2. This is a very interesting poem which has got me thinking! Self-governance is something we can all work on…the rest is something we have inflicted upon us, more or less.

    1. Thanks very much! If you think of people as a ‘group’, rather than each a unique individual, it’s much easier to feel one-size-fits-all rules can work. Those who govern often promote group identities for their own benefit alone. 😉
